The first step is to have a conversation with your local church pastor.
The second step is to receive a recommendation by your consistory.
The third step in the Commissioned Pastor process is that of being affirmed by Classis leaders. This is typically done by means of an interview with the commissioned pastor or student care team of the Classis. With their encouragement, application materials should be completed and sent to Church Leadership Center. The materials include the following:
- Application form
- Personal references
- Consistory or Council recommendation form
- Classis endorsement form
- Application processing fee of $50

Followed by candidate taking Bible Knowledge Assessment test
Pre-training plan conference: includes candidate and mentor (face to face or phone conference depending upon location): provides summary of anticipated training plan requirements and costs as well as mentor orientation. (Consultation and training plan fee of $500 invoiced by Church Leadership Center, to be paid before training plan meeting is scheduled.)
Training plan meeting: includes candidate, mentor, and classis representative. Discussion draft of proposed training plan is provided prior to the meeting.
Implementation of training plan: beginning of process described in training plan
E-portfolio registration and creation
Psychological profile and assessment: $500 – $600
Meetings with mentor regularly scheduled
Semi-annual supervisory team meetings
Completing courses and other learning activities
Administrative support fee: $1200/year (minimum of one year; maximum of 3 years), annual mentor fee: $500, course fees: currently $300 each, fees paid to Church Leadership Center
